Webs

By Chandra Martin

the inner voice
begins quietly

a small knowing
beneath the noise of the world

the beginning
of self-definition

a woman
stepping into her own light

not to escape herself
but to see

the webs

history
memory
identity

threads that once clung to her
sticky with expectation
names
roles
inheritance

once she thought
they held her

now she sees their pattern

how each strand
adds depth
adds truth

she stands inside them
clear-eyed

i know who i am

and the knowing
does not break the web

it strengthens it

turning what once felt like a trap
into a tapestry

of becoming

of rising

of clarity

and in that moment

she honors
the woman she is

with gratitude
